2 days, 3 hour class each day
Winter Solstice Sewing carries all the supplies needed for the class.
Skills needed:
Basic straight line sewing
Knowledge of how to lay out a pattern and cut it
You will learn:
to take measurements and choose the correct pattern size for you,
to sew a dart,
to treat a facing with understitching,
to top stitch,
to make a buttonhole,
to apply a patch pocket,
to insert an invisible zipper, and
to hem a pair of pants.
Supply list:
Sewing machine or call to rent sewing machine (If you bring your own machine, it must be in
working order.)
Sewing Essentials:
Sewing machine needles appropriate for the fabric.
Seam ripper
Fabric scissors
Fabric pins or clips
Thread
Measuring tape (flexible)
Hand sewing needles
Thread scissors
Sewing tracing paper
Tracing wheel
Tracing paper to trace the pattern
Pencil and eraser
Straight edge ruler
Scotch tape
Paper scissors
Fabric – 3-4 yards of 45” wide light or medium weight woven cotton, linen, hemp or wool.
Avoid fabric with a nap, directional, heavy weight, stretch or slippery.
Fabric amount depends on the size that you are making.
Size 0-6 needs 3 yards of 45” wide.
Size 8 – 16 needs 3.5 yards of 45” wide.
Size 18 – 26 requires 4 yards of 45” wide.
Interfacing – 24” x 20” of lightweight interfacing
Thread
Buttons x 2 – ¾” or 1” in size
Invisible zipper 5” long (if you have one that is longer, it can be cut)
NB: If you want to use a special fabric, I suggest using this class to make a mockup before you cut into
the special piece. This will give you an opportunity to perfect the fit.
