Bralette+Panty Serger Class August Night 1 of 2

Bralette+Panty class
Description:
Practice some basics of sewing with knit fabrics on a serger. Week 1 we will make bikini
style panties to match a reversible bralette that we’ll make during week 2. Week 1 is done
exclusively on a serger, unless the ruching option is chosen; Week 2 will use both the serger
and sewing machine.
Skills you’ll learn:
● working with knits
● sewing from a pattern
● using a serger
● attaching knit bands
● installing elastic
● zig-zag stitch
● (optional) elastic ruching
Prerequisites: some sewing knowledge/experience required (ideally, used a sewing
machine before even if a beginner); ideal for an “adventurous beginner” sewist who is
wanting to work with stretch fabrics and elastic; can be brand new to working on a serger.
Suggested price: $125
2-week mini course – Mondays 5:30-9pm Aug 17 & 24
Supply list:
● Student supplies: 2.5yd knit fabric with 50% 4-way stretch and good recovery (1.25yd
main, 1.25yd coordinate); cotton/spandex recommended, but other spandex blends
work well too – Fabric kits available at Winter Solstice
● Student supplies matching thread
● Tools/Supplies student should bring: soft measuring tape, sewing clips/pins,
scissors/rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler, loop turner (Instructor will provide some to be
shared as well)
● Students MUST have their own serger
● Instructor provides bra band elastic and clear elastic
Instructor will provide some cotton spandex scraps for the panty gusset piece in case
students choose a different fabric type than cotton. Main and contrast fabrics ideally should be
same fabric type though for ease of sewing together.
