Blanket Sweater Class (A Serger Project) – August

Description:
Learn some basics of sewing with knit fabrics on a serger. We will draft a pattern and create
a cocoon style sweater constructed exclusively on the serger – no hemming required!
Skills you’ll learn:
● working with knits
● drafting a pattern
● using a serger
● attaching knit bands
● attaching knit sleeves/cuffs
Dates/times: 1 night course, 5:30-8:30pm Monday Aug 31
STUDENTS MUST HAVE A SERGER
Prerequisites: some sewing knowledge/experience preferred (ideally you have used a sewing
machine before even if a beginner); any level sewist who is wanting to work with
stretch fabrics on a serger; can be brand new to working on a serger.
Supply list:
● Student supplies: 2yd knit fabric with at least 30% stretch (rayon/spandex for
something lightweight and drapey; sweater knits for something cozy; stretch french
terry for something more structured)
● Student supplies matching thread
● Tools/Supplies student should bring soft measuring tape, sewing clips/pins,
scissors/rotary cutter, cutting mat, ruler
● Students MUST bring their own serger
● Instructor provides paper for pattern drafting
