SUMMARY:Bralette+Panty Serger Class August Night 1 of 2
DESCRIPTION:Bralette+Panty class \nDescription:\nPractice some basics of sewing with knit fabrics on a serger. Week 1 we will make bikini\nstyle panties to match a reversible bralette that we’ll make during week 2. Week 1 is done\nexclusively on a serger\, unless the ruching option is chosen; Week 2 will use both the serger\nand sewing machine. \nSkills you’ll learn:\n● working with knits\n● sewing from a pattern\n● using a serger\n● attaching knit bands\n● installing elastic\n● zig-zag stitch\n● (optional) elastic ruching \nPrerequisites: some sewing knowledge/experience required (ideally\, used a sewing\nmachine before even if a beginner); ideal for an “adventurous beginner” sewist who is\nwanting to work with stretch fabrics and elastic; can be brand new to working on a serger. \n2-week mini course – Mondays 5:30-9pm Aug 17 & 24 \nSupply list:\n● Student supplies: 2.5yd knit fabric with 50% 4-way stretch and good recovery (1.25yd\nmain\, 1.25yd coordinate); cotton/spandex recommended\, but other spandex blends\nwork well too – Fabric kits available at Winter Solstice\n● Student supplies matching thread\n● Tools/Supplies student should bring: soft measuring tape\, sewing clips/pins\,\nscissors/rotary cutter\, cutting mat\, ruler\, loop turner (Instructor will provide some to be\nshared as well) \n● Students MUST have their own serger \n● Instructor provides bra band elastic and clear elastic \nInstructor will provide some cotton spandex scraps for the panty gusset piece in case\nstudents choose a different fabric type than cotton. Main and contrast fabrics ideally should be\nsame fabric type though for ease of sewing together.

SUMMARY:Bralette & Panty class September
DESCRIPTION:Practice some basics of sewing with knit fabrics on a serger. Week 1 we will make bikini style panties to match a reversible bralette that we’ll make during week 2. Week 1 is done exclusively on a serger\, unless the ruching option is chosen; Week 2 will use both the serger and sewing machine. \nSkills you’ll learn:\n● working with knits\n● sewing from a pattern\n● using a serger\n● attaching knit bands\n● installing elastic\n● zig-zag stitch\n● (optional) elastic ruching \nSupply list: \n2.5yd knit fabric with 50% 4-way stretch and good recovery (1.25yd main\, 1.25yd coordinate); cotton/spandex recommended\, but other spandex blends work well too. Fabric kits available in shop. \nMatching Thread \nTools/Supplies student should bring \nsoft measuring tape\, sewing clips/pins\, scissors/rotary cutter\, ruler\, loop turner (Instructor will provide some to be\nshared as well) \n● Students should bring their own serger\, with manual and toolkit (tweezers\, needles\, screwdriver/hexkey – specific to machine for changing needles) \n● Students provide sewing machine for night 2 (for finishing edge of bralette) \n● Instructor provides bra band elastic and clear elastic \nOther information:\nFabric stretch is ESSENTIAL for this pattern! The fabric absolutely must stretch 50% in all\ndirections. To test for stretch\, take a 4” folded over section of fabric and stretch it…it needs to at\nleast stretch to 6”. The harder it is to stretch that amount\, the tighter the fit will feel and the\nharder it will be to pull the legging on. Do this test both with and against the grain. (If there isn’t\nquite enough stretch in 1 direction\, it may be possible to cut on the bias – let the instructor know\nbefore class begins in order to have help making this adjustment.)\nInstructor will provide some cotton spandex scraps for the panty gusset piece in case students\nchoose a different fabric type than cotton. Main and contrast fabrics ideally should be same\nfabric type though for ease of sewing together. \n  \n
